How to Restore Exchange Mailbox from Older Backup Version

Created: 21 Aug 2013 • Updated: 27 Aug 2013 | 6 comments
This issue has been solved. See solution.

I have installed Backup Exec 2012.  We have been using this for a couple of months now.  All my backups are done through this.

I have a request from upper management to retrieve a mailbox from our April 2013 end of month tape.  It was backed up using Backup Exec 12.

I have loaded it and inventoried and cataloged.  How do I get it to recognize the data off that tape.  The server is still the same server from the backup.

also, I backup to disk before tape.  I did "Duplicate" the Exchange store that I want to a "Disk Storage 0001" area thinking I could do a search and find it that way.  So far no luck.

Help..

Thanks once again

Cathy

Cathy ,

Was the backup that was done with 12.0 done as a brick level backup or was it done using GRT?? Additionally what version of Exchange are we talking about ??

I hope this posting was helpful

Hey Donald..

it was GRT and Exchange 2007.  I have it on disk now (the store that is).  But when I go to that server and try to do a restore,  I put in the date range of 5-1-2013 thru 5-2-2013 .

I am not sure what it is looking for in the "Location:" field but I put in the Disk Storage 0001 which is where the file is at.

The "Name:" I am not sure what it is looking for there.  If you know, please let me know.

Thanks much

Cathy

Hello,

check out the selection date range and make sure it is able to include the backup date range.

The "Selection Date Range" is the day of the backup.  That is what is showing on the file date in the disk duplicate.

Thanks

Cathy

Unfortunately Cathy,

Because of the gap in versioning you may need to install and perform the restore with 12.5. We may be able to figure out a way get the restore to kick off but really cant guarantee the success of it. As per the Dev. team member that i ran this scenario by the best course of action would be to install 12.5 on a machine and use it to perform the restore.

I hope this posting was helpful

Thanks Donald.  I have explained that to my managers and they understand.  We would have to setup a new server and install BE 12.5 on it ...  Too much work.

Have a great day..
