Afaik you can only restore File&folder backups from the machine where you took the backups.

Using Rescue Agent trying to recover .fbf files from a backup.  I restored 6 of these files. When I try to open them I get a set of utilities and a note to only use these with the help of Symantec tech support. What's up with this? Is there another way to open these. Some of these files are large more than 700 mb.  I think there's good information in them, but with the numeric code names I have no idea what they are. Please help.

I'm having the same problem, trying to open the .fbf files.  Take a look at this link http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_do_you_open_.fbf_file_extension_from_Norton_ghost_14.0_backup

I haven't tried any of their suggestions yet, but they seem legitimate.

Good Luck, let me know if it helps.

Markus: Does this mean we have to purchase the BackupExec program to recover and open the .fbf files?

It seems like much more than I need. Seems there should be an easier way, but maybe not.

I think you can just download the trial version of BESR and try to restore the files. b
