Hi Team,

I am running Netbackup6.0 MP4 on Windows 2003 based Master Server. We have a unix based media server "GENX" that is running Oracle DB with NB Agent. we are talking full online db backup using RMAN and backups are working fine and completing successfuly. we are planing to perform a test a restore.

Any one can advise how to do it? please if there is any SOP do link here.

Hi,

Thanks for reply,

i have gone through the admin guide, it showing 5 procedures to restore. my concern is what is appropriate out of these five. what i feel is "Running the NetBackup for Oracle Recovery Wizard on the Client" or "Running RMAN on client" will be appropriate. what do u say?

Furthermore My DB size is almost 3TB and i need that much space to restore, since my aim is to test the restore is there any way to minimize the space requirement?

Whichever you prefer, but I

Whichever you prefer, but I like the Oracle Recovery Wizard .

How about selecting several database objects (data files, tablespaces) ? Or restore to another test server.

If your restore test has to restore entire DB, You need to create more disk space on the client.

Hi,
  1. I agree that we need more disk space to restore entire DB.
  2. We are taking backup using RMAN Script (.sh) Is there any conflict if we restore using wizard.
  3. If we prefer to restore using RMAN Script (.sh) do we need to configure another script for restore other then backup script? or the same will work for restore?

2. No conflict. And if you

2. No conflict. And if you restore the entire DB, DB must be mounted.

3. You need to create/modify another (restore) script. Refer to the database_restore.sh or the pit_database_restore.sh.

There are example RMAN shell scripts in the following directory:
/usr/openv/netbackup/ext/db_ext/oracle/samples/rman

NetBackup rman

if you type in netbackup rman in google you will see that there are

28,200 entries for netbackup rman restore

48,800 entries for netbackup rman scripts

I'm quite certain you will be able to locate some example restore scripts :-)
