How exactly to have a script to run the definition file *.exe silently in the background so that user doesn't get any intimation but the definitions of his SEP client are updated?

Please help with a script too!

Also, will it ask for a restart?

If you're talking about intelligent updater it has a silent switch and you can push using a tool like psexec. No restart needed to update defs

    Hi,

Thank you for posting in Symantec community.

I would be glad to answer your query.

The Intelligent Updater is an executable file that can be used to update virus definitions for the Symantec Endpoint Protection client. To update the definitions, run either the Daily Certified or Rapid Release Intelligent Updater on the local computer. Refer this: http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH102606

Available Command-Line Options for Intelligent Updater (Version 5)
Version 5 Intelligent Updater files are distinguished from Version 4 files by the "v5" string in the IU filename. Example: 20070817-009-v5i32.exe

When executed at a command line, the Intelligent Updater (Version 5) uses the following syntax:
    Filename.exe [/?][/extract<file><path>][/list][/q][/r]

/q will run it in silent or unattended mode.
