Hi

Your question is not describes well here ,but one thing is understood you want to backup virtual machines ,but then no description of whether if it is ESX for vmwareor if it is Hyperv for Microsoft.

1 First of all ensure that you have got license for vmware agent (AVVI) or hyperv agent. If you don't have please contact licensing support for more information
Link describes how vmware license works. http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH159925

2 Assuming you have got license in backup exec please go to tools install option and license keys and enter the licenses and click on next to install it
3 Last thing remaining is just need to install remote agent on all your virtual machine ,to install remote agent you can use any of the mention way given in article below

http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH30491
4 In last please check the FAQ on vmware agent and hyper agent to backup them
http://www.symantec.com/docs/DOC4255
eval.symantec.com/.../b-backup_exec_2010_r2_agent_for_ms_hype...
http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO21770 for hyperv

If you complete all above 3 steps you would be able to backup either vmware or hyper
Permission required to backup virtual machines on vmware

http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH129645

Hope that helps

Thanks
