  • 1.  How to send PGP Signed emails without attachments?

    Posted Feb 28, 2012 07:28 PM

    Hello,

I am using PGP desktop and want to send out signed emails that do NOT include attachments. I basically want the signature information to be included in the body of the message, and the email to be sent without an attachment (such as a pgp.sig file). The reason for this is some clients will reject emails with attachments, so I only want the signature to be included as text in the body of a plain-text email.

I have set up PGP desktop to sign emails with the PGP 'Sign' button in outlook pressed. I've set it up to sign with the 'PGP Partitioned' method. When I do this, it does properly sign into the body, but always sends a PGP.sig attachment as well. How do I stop it from doing this?

    Thank you,

I suspect that your PGP Partitioned setting change was made in the Sign Button messaging policy.  If not please do so.

I'm guessing that you did not change your key's Encoding setting in Key Properties to Partitioned; please do so.

I'm hoping that having both these settings will take care of it.

    Hello, thanks for your response.

As per your suggestion, I set the sign action to PGP Partitioned in the 'Sign Button' policy. I also set the encoding method in my key to Partitioned.

The email is being properly signed within the body of the message, but I am seeing a "PGPexch.htm.pgp" file attached to the emails. What is the file for, and is there any way to stop it from being sent?

    Thank you,

I just found this file explained in http://archive.cert.uni-stuttgart.de/openpgp/2005/03/msg00000.html

Based on what I'm seeing there, this appears to be the file containing html or rtf portions of the email being sent.  Based on this, I think to accomplish your goal, you would need to send the email as text only.

Thank you very much, that fixed my issue. I was not sending my emails as plain text, so this is why the attachment was being added. When I send plain text emails, I get no attachment and signature information is only contained within the body of the message.

    Much appreciated.
