How to stop replication of Security Patches
We have stopped using Altiris Patch Management for our pm strategy. I have disabled all policies, but have not removed the solution. I want to remove all of the security updates that PM Import downloaded throughout the years so that they are not replicating to all of our package servers. OR, disable across all of these packages the replication.
Any suggestions?
Brett
You are part of the way there
You are using version 6 correct? Once you have followed the steps listed here: Altiris KB40899, which include the steps you have already taken, then comes the hard part.
In version 6 package removal is largely done via manual steps.
This is a parse of the information from an additonal article, Altiris KB43509.
Navigate to the Resources Tab > Resource Management > Resources > Software Management > Software Patch Packages > Software Updates and delete all the patches that are under General, Hardware, and Security Updates.
Next, go to Configuration Tab > Solutions Settings > Software Management > Patch Management > Server Settings > Global Settings > Download Software Update Packages, and in the right pane view the path for downloaded updates. Go to that path on the NS and delete the desired update folders. The physical updates download on the hard drive will need to be deleted manually, for step 2 only removes them from the database
Take into account that your package servers and clients should be have enough time to check in after the tasks have been disabled to ensure you don't get the dreaded 'item not found' flood.
