    Hi there,

Are you trying to backup the data from PGP Universal Server?

If you are trying to take a backup of the PGP Universal Server data, you have two options that you can configure it on the PGP UN Server namely scheduled backups and on-demand backups.

    For Scheduling Backups:

    To schedule automatic backups

1 On the System > System Backups page of the administrative interface, click

    Backup Schedule.

The Backup Schedule dialog box appears.

    2 Click Enable Scheduled Backups.

3 Select the boxes under the names of the days of the week you want backups

    performed.

4 Specify a time for the backups to begin in the Start backups at field.

    5 Click Save.

    Performing On-Demand Backups

To create a backup right now, on the System > System Backups page of the

    administrative interface, click Backup Now.

A backup of your data is performed immediately. When the backup is complete, it

    displays in the Backups list.

If you are trying to take a backup of your virtual machine, then you take a "snapshot" of your virtual machine. You may want to check the documentation of your virtual machine software for details steps.

    Hope it helps.

Thank you so much  Bipshr for your help.

Is there any difference between the hardware cluster and the virutual server cluster for PGP Universal Server?

    Thank you

    Hi there,

The inner workings of the PGP Universal Server in a cluster is independent of the platform (physical or virtual). It works on both platforms. As far as installation is concerned, the PGP UN installation steps are just the same. You may want to check how the installation steps look like. Here is the KB article regarding that: http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH197003

If you are installing it on a virtual machine, you have to install the VMWare Tools after the installation of PGP UN. If you are installing on a physical machine, make sure that you are installing it on a supported hardware. Here is a list of supported hardware: http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH149007

There are some more information regarding the installation and what needs to be checked before and after the installation of PGPUN on both types of platforms (physical and virtual). Please find below the link to installation guide:  http://www.symantec.com/docs/DOC7067

There are always pros and cons of using virtual machines and physical machines. I personally prefer to install it on a virtual machine because of the flexibility.

    Hope it helps.

Note: The branding name of PGP Universal Server has been changed. It is called Symantec Encryption Management Server (SEMS). Here is the link for new names: http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH197084
