This issue has been solved. See solution.

 Hello,

I have 2 computers in a local network with pcAnywhere 11.0 installed. Both computers have different ports specified for pcAnywhere access and all proper ports are forwarded to router. Router external IP address ends with .255, so when I try to access those computers from Internet pcAnywhere attempts to scan subnet for available hosts instead of just connecting to provided IP. I waited about 15 minutes and no hosts were found. How can I turn off subnet scan, I don't need it, because I know the exact IP address I want to connect to.

Thank you!

update your remote connection

Hi Prachka,

If you know the IP address you want to connect to, simply add that IP into the Remote connection under the Settings tab

Please give more details

Thank you for the answer, but I am not sure what do you mean exaclty. This is what I've tried:

1) Selected "Remotes" on the left menu
2) Right clicked on "Network, Cable, DSL" and selected "Properties" from popup menu
3) Selected "Settings" tab
4) Specified the IP address I want to connect to in "Network Host PC to Control or IP address" field, clicked OK
5) Right clicked on  "Network, Cable, DSL" and selected "Start Remote Control"

the result was exactly the same I was getting before: "Scanning Network for the TCP/IP hosts" message and then a window with empty TCP/IP hosts list. For me looks like it's still doing a subnet scan, which I don't need. One of the computers behind the router is using standard pcAnywhere ports, so I expect to connect to that computer right away without any subnet scans. Is there a way to turn subnet scan off?

Connection info tab?

On the Connection Info Tab do you have the Connect through Gateway or Access Server checked?  If so then it would shed some light on what is happpening, because the steps you have provided above are the correct steps to directly connect to the IP of the machine in question.

I would create a fresh remote to eliminate that this remote connection is corruptes.

  1. Confirm you are in advanced view by going to the view menu and makeing sure it doesn't say Go to Advanced view.
  2. Select Remotes in the pcAnywhere Manager on the Right
  3. Select File
  4. Select New Item
  5. Select Advanced.
  6. then confirm that the ports are set correctly on the sonnection info page under Details.
  7. Make sure that the Connect through Gateway  or Access Server check box is not checked.
  8. on the settings tab confirm that the external IP is enterend in the Network Host PC toControl or IP address field.
  9. Click OK
  10. Give it a name like connection to Machine In Question.
  11. then double click the Remote.

This will eliminate the option of having a corrupted remote.

Missing Gateway/Access Server Option

I can not find this option anywhere:

--> Make sure that the Connect through Gateway or Access Server check box is not checked.

Maybe option is missing because I am using old pcAnywhere version (11.0)? I did all the other steps except that missing option and created a new remote with the same result. Here is how my connection info and TCP/IP settings look like. I checked other tabs, there is no that option too.

My mistake I have an newer version I guess that was added after

My mistake I have an newer version I guess that feature was added after 11.  Can you connect to either of the 2 machines?  It sounds like a router issue but I don't understand the scanning step it should talk directly to the machine if you have set it that way.

Cheers.

Network Scanning

I'm pretty sure your problem is due to this:

You router IP address should not be configured to .255 in fact this is the Broadcast address of your subnet. That's the reason why pc anywhere on seeing that address starts a network scan.

The only solution is to change your router external address.

Thanks for Clear Answer

Thank you for clear answer Ettore, this address is given me by my ISP, so maybe if I shut down router for overnight it will change it's IP.
