  • 1.  How is an unzipped def transfer faster across a network?

There is an option to store definition updates unzipped om SEPM as it's faster when transferring to a client. Since this option is more than doubling the disk space in use by SEPM because both the zipped and unzipped copies are present, I'm curious as to why it would be faster and how much faster we're talking.

Clients are either connected by 100 M/bps LAN or by a T-1 WAN line.

    Thanks,

    Ray

I think there's no difference with the transfer rate wether it is zip or unzipped, its just that the zipped file completes faster because the size is reduced.

Because unzipped, as I recall, the client gets just what it needs (deltas), not the whole thing.
    May be mistaken on that.
Plus there is effort in unzipping.

(For some reason, some throughput tests I have run shows that several smaller files transfter faster than one large one on some networks.......... )

I guess I'll have to allocate more disk space. :-)

Thanks for all of your thoughts,

How was the client update frequency if I have 1000 clients so that all clients will comes a same time?

    this will chokup a network,

    Any Idea?

Check this link on the computation of the updates, not sure if updated though,

I dont think there's any tangible difference too in tranferring zipped versus unzipped files

That's simple enough to verify............ install file transfer speed testing applications on each end like I've done here.
Amazing results - might be surprised at what goes fast, what doesn't.
    I used Raccoonworks Speed Test.
