  • 1.  How to update virus definition on Norton Bootable Recovery Tool

    Posted Jul 24, 2016 10:37 PM

    Hi,

I used to use 'Symantec Endpoint Recovery Tool' (SERT) to clean infected computer.  But since Symantec no longer support this anymore and tell us to use 'Norton Bootable Recovery Tool' (NBRT), I have not figure out a way to use NBRT with the latest virus definition.

I downloaded the latest NBRT on 21 July 2016, and its virus definition date is 26 May 2016, which is almost 2 months old.  I then contact Symantec support and they told me there is no way to update the definition like they did on SERT.

Has anyone know a way to update the definition on NBRT?

    Thanks!

    Thanks Brian.

But first thing we do with infected computer is to unplug from network so no internet connection.  Second we are behind proxy server, so even we connect the infected computer to network we still need a way to modify network setting in NBRT.

I am sure many company has network situation similar to mine.  Not sure what Symantec was thinking.  I think NBRT is suppose to be for consumer rather than cooperate cleint.

I read some post saying I can use Norton Bootable Recovery Wizard to update the definition while burning the ISO file.  But I can not find the Wizard tool anywhere.  We purchased Symantec Endpoint Protection product not Norton products.
