This issue has been solved. See solution.

Hi All,

Have upgraded our setup on netbackup which is on Solaris 10.

Need to upgrade clients....individually.

I am aware of upgrading all clients but the reason is it restart the services and if backup is in progress then the job fails with error 63.

So i need to check first if there is no job in progress then only upgrade the client.

Suggestions are welcome.

In such case I would use

/usr/openv/netbackup/bin/update_clients [-ForceInstall -Install_Client_Bins ] \
                [-ClientList filename | hardware_type operating_system]
Where in filename you do have clients you would like to update, in one line you should have

Hardware         OS               Client

RS6000           AIX53              client_name
The above can be filtered output from /usr/openv/netbackup/bin/bpplclients -allunique -noheader

This is in regards of UNIX like clients...

Personally, I think the easiest way to check for running jobs would be the GUI in all honesty - unless your environment is really huge.

Then run the 'update_clients' script with the -ClientList option using a 'list' of clients taht you want to update.

update_clients -Client_List clients.lis

where client.lis is of the format:

Solaris Solaris10 client1
Solaris Solaris10 client2
Solaris Solaris10 client3

etc etc etc

Yes, depending on the client version you're coming from (must be at least 6.5), you could upgrade Windows AND Solaris/Unix clients the same way, all you need is a webserver...

Please have a look at the NetBackup 7.5 LiveUpdate Guide for details.

Windows clients cannot be pushed from a Unix/Linux server.

You will need to start the upgrade from a Windows system as Domain Admin and can then 'select machines on the network'.
You can then select similar network clients (same OS and bit level).
