How to upgrade from v8.0.3 control centre and scanner to v10.0 control centre only?

How to upgrade from v8.0.3 control centre and scanner to v10.0 control centre only? 

The old server(appliance) has roles: control centre and scanner. The customer decides to separate to one control centre(VM) and one scanner(VM)?

Any suggestion?

Hello,

You can upgrade to version 10.0.0-7 directly from 8.0.3 version. You can do that two ways, one of that is from Web Interface and the other one from CLI.

I prefer to use second one because you couldn't see any progress status about upgrade before 9.x versions.

1- Administration/Configuration/Version/, you can see that 10.0.0-7 version is available for update. You can select the version and then click upgrade. Upgrade might take a couple of hours(first downloading the newest version then installing it automaticaly)

2-Just login to appliance from SSH with "Admin" user then use "update check" (check the versions) and after it completed, use "update download" for downloading the newest version to your appliance then use "update install" after downloading. You can see the progress when downloading and installing and also you can install anytime you want once you downloaded files.

Before all of these, create a full backup of your system and download it to your local and keep the ISO file of 8.0.3 for emergency to restore your backup if available.

Hi, oykunsatis, thanks for your advise.

But we are going to change server: from 8.0.3 appliance to vmware. And the there is a role separation. 

Previously was one server(control centre+scanner), now we are going to setup two separate servers(one control centre and another one is scanner), how to backup and restore all the data?

By the way regarding the mail traffic maybe you can add another Scanner (2 Scanners and 1 Control Center) or you can use seperated Control Center as scanner also (1 Control Center &Scanner and One Scanner)

Hello,

Before seperating roles and moving to VM, you need to upgrade version 10 after that, create a "Configuration Only" backup then install your clean 10 version infrastructure with VM.

After that restore your backup to your new infrastructure.

In this case, you have a backup that coming from 1 Appliance with C&C and Scanner role and you need to restore it to your new Control Center.

After restoring, Check your settings and configurations, You may see old appliance name,FQDN restored to your new machine. So,check all available settings in Brightmail and change them for your new setup if you need. Then just add your other scanner from interface Administration/Configuration/ Add Scanner page.

Hi Oykun, I tried to restore, it got below error:

ERROR: Backup image is incompatible with target system. Host roles must match.

Backup role: 3

I think this is a new control in this new version. In which settings did you create backup ?

Maybe more granular backup will assist you.

Hi, i created the backup type config or config-incidents. both got the same error.
