How to verify the required NetBackup (tm) 7.1 daemons/services are up and running on a master server

This issue has been solved. See solution.

Dear all,

I have 2 questions :

Can you please provide a list of the required NetBackup (tm) 7.1 daemons/services are up and running on a UNIX master/media/and client ? i refer to the default ones, not those summoned during a backup / restore. I have found the information for 6.5, 7.0 but not for the 7.1 Netbackup version.

Also, if possible, please specify what is the minimum / maximum number of the instances that a deamon from above list can have simultaneously.

Thank you

Install NetBackup 7.1 and run: bpps -x

That will tell you. Most of the processes only run onces, with a few exceptions when the system is busy. Why do you need to know this? Exam question?

Hello,

Thanks for your response. Is it possible for you to update

http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH135186    for the 7.1 version?

For my second question, can you be more specific ? e.g minimum / maximum number of instances, and which are the processes with more instances ?

Not for an exam, for creating a monitoring flow.

Instances depends on the activity in the environment.

Each request to the Request service will have its own bprd process.
Each query or update to the policy or image database will have its own bpdbm process.
And so on and so on...

Please read through Appendix A of the Troubleshooting Guide.

Hello,

Thank you for your response.

I am sorry if my questions were ambiguous. I am rephrasing below :

1. If we would look at services status, which ones should be up and running on NetBackup 7.1 Master/Media/Client to allow us to say it is working correctly?

2. Are there any thresholds/limits with regards to the number of concurrent instances of processes that could be used to determine possible NetBackup problems?

That technote covers the daemons, it may say 7.0 but it applies to 7.1 too.
