I'm testing out SMP7 (w/ CMS, Asset and ServiceDesk) and have run across a pretty obnoxious bug and have a feature request related to it, but I have no clue where or how to report this bug to Symantec. Any ideas?
I don't know if the bug could be classified as a bug in SMP or CMS, but I'm running the latest versions of each.
Out of the box there is that daily 9am notification policy that sends a blank e-mail to the admin contact. This is the Remote Access Purge Settings policy. I didn't want it to e-mail me every day, so I figured the best option was to have it run a task that essentially did nothing, so I created a "Run Script" task to run a vbscript that simply contained WScript.Quit 0 to literally do nothing.
After I set up the task, I went back to the automation policy and switched the action to run that task, but I noticed the automation policy failed to run. I realized I made a rookie mistake by doing Run Script instead of Run Script on Server.
Not thinking, I jumped back over to Jobs and Tasks and deleted the new Run Script task I just created. Right after I clicked OK I realized I made a mistake and was waiting for the dependency check to bark at me and tell me the task is being used by other policies like I was used to seeing in NS6. Unfortunately, that didn't happen. The task deleted and the automation policy became nothing but useless. Since the task wasn't there, there was an error rendering the page for the policy and I could no longer do anything with it.
Ultimately, I had to have a friend export the XML for his policy. You cannot import automation policies via the web interface (enter my feature request) so I had to use the ImportExportUtil.exe to import that policy back in. Fortunately that got me back to the point I was before I messed with anything, so I was able to create a new Run Script on Server task, apply it to that policy and everything is great now.
My problem is that we're a small shop so we don't have any assigned engineer or anything, and I can't find anywhere on Symantec's site to report bugs or feature requests. Any ideas?
Here's a more step-by-step version of my narrative on how to reproduce this issue:
*** Export the Remote Access Purge Settings task before continuing
1. Go to Manage..Jobs and Tasks
2. Expand Jobs and Tasks/System Jobs and Tasks/Notification Server/Automation Policy Tasks
3. Right-click on Automation Policy Tasks and choose New..Task
4. Choose Run Script
5. Set script as appropriate (i.e. vbscript with WScript.Quit 0 as the script)
6. Save changes
7. Go to Manage..Automation Policies
8. Click on the Remote Access Purge Settings
9. Under Actions, change the Run job/task to the newly created task
10. Save changes
11. Go back to Mangage..Jobs and Tasks
12. Expand Jobs and Tasks/System Jobs and Tasks/Notification Server/Automation Policy Tasks
13. Right-click and delete the task you created above. Note the lack of warning for the task being assigned to something
14. Go back to Manage..Automation Policies
15. Note the error on the Remote Access Purge Settings policy
