How will BE2012 backup a system state of a server, if the vss system writer is not available?

Created: 12 Feb 2013 | 3 comments

Hi,

i would like to know,

HOW backup exec 2012  (maybe the R2 Beta) will take a complete backup of a windows 2008 R2 server if the vss system writer is missing!

I was advised from a symantec employee to wait for BE 2012 R2 and to use this release.
the new release should be able to backup this scenario?

Is there any feature i don´t know?

why is the system writer missing ?

God (only) knows!

The bug seems to be present since september 2012 and microsoft seems not be interessted in a solution.
i talked to presales, break/fix support and tried on connect/beta site.

After installation of Sharepoint 2013 the system writer is missing.

Lenora told me that BE 2012 R2 will backup Sharepoint 2013 ...
But i think she missed the vss system writer problem.

Hmm well off the top of my head  I would guess that we have never tested a backup scenario where the vss system writer is missing. I also have a feeling that we would expect it to be there to support certain snapshot backup requests and you would then have to fix this environmental issue before we can look into any issues.
