    Release Notes

This document contains the following topics:

    Introduction

HP Client Manager from Symantec is a comprehensive systems management solution for IT professionals who are responsible for the complete management—deployment, ongoing upkeep, and retirement—of their organization's desktop and notebook computers. This fully-integrated suite of management tools automates management tasks and reduces desk-side visits, which can substantially lower the total cost of owning client computers and software.

This service pack contains features and fixes for issues that were reported for HP Client Manager 7.0. For more information, see the following knowledge base articles:

    • 41822HP Client Manager 7.0 Release Notes

    New features

The new features of this release are as follows:

    Windows 7 is supported.

HP Client Manager supports Windows 7 and Windows 7 Premium. As part of this support, the following features have been added:

    New filters
    • Managed HP 32 bit Windows 7 Computers
    • Managed HP 64 bit Windows 7 Computers
    New "Windows 7 Ready" reports
    • HP computers not capable of upgrading to Windows 7 or Windows 7 Premium
    • Windows 7-Capable or Premium Ready HP Systems
The Event Console Web part appears on the HP Client Manager Home page.

The Event Console Web part appears at the bottom of the HP Client Manager Home page, which lets you view all alerts on a single page.

Additional details are available from the Summary of HP Computers Web part.

On the HP Client Manager Home page, the Summary of HP Computers Web part displays the number of managed HP computers by type. When you click an area of the pie chart, the new Supported HP Computers details report lists all the computers that are represented by the area that you clicked.

You can access the HP Health Monitor reports from the HP Client Manager Home page.

On the HP Client Manager Home page, on the Management Tasks Web part, a link to the HP Health Monitor reports appears under Alerts.

An Embedded Security Failed Tasks report has been added.

The new Embedded Security Failed Tasks report lists any embedded security tasks that failed, the computers on which they failed, and the reason for the failure. This report is listed under Reports > HP Client Manager > HP Client Inventory.

You can view the SKU numbers of HP computers.

The new HP SKU Information report displays the SKU numbers and other information for your managed HP computers. This report is listed under Reports > HP Client Manager > HP Client Inventory.

You can view the status of HP SoftPaq installations.

The new HP Softpaq Execution Status report provides the status of all the HP SoftPaq installations that were run on your managed HP computers. This report is listed underReports > HP Client Manager > HP SoftPaq Delivery.

Additional information appears in the HP BIOS Administration Wizard on the Advanced tab.

In the HP BIOS Administration Wizard, on the Advanced tab, the following BIOS options, which were not included previously, have been added:

    • BIOS Power-on Time
Lets you specify a time at which to turn on one or more HP client computers.
    • Asset Tracking Number
Lets you assign a number to an HP client computer so that you can track it in HP Client Manager. The tracking number is limited to 16 characters; if you type more than 16 characters, a message appears.
Enhanced support for the BIOS password has been added.

The HP BIOS Administration Wizard has been updated as follows:

    • The wizard supports case-sensitive characters and special characters for the BIOS password. Previously, all BIOS passwords that were entered in the wizard were converted to lowercase.
    • The new Allow Numpad option on the Main tab lets you allow users to enter numeric characters in the BIOS password from the numeric keypad on the keyboard.
The Download HP Health Scan Softpaqs page contains more meaningful information.

On the Download HP Health Scan SoftPaqs page, the columns were changed to display the following information about each SoftPaq: SoftPaq name, Type, Description, and Version.

An automated task imports SoftPaqs to the HP Filestore daily.

A Windows scheduled task has been created to import the SoftPaqs and update the Filestore automatically. By default, the task is scheduled to run at 2:30 A.M. daily, but you can edit the task to change the schedule.

To access the task, on the Windows Control Panel, click Scheduled Tasks > NS.HP File Store Update.

Performing the import daily helps keep the Filestore current without the need to run the HP SoftPaq Import manually. You can still run the import manually when it is necessary.

An automated task updates the HP Tools daily.

A Windows scheduled task has been created to update the HP Tools automatically. The HP tools consist of HP Instant Support System Health Scan and HP System Software Manager (SSM). By default, the task is scheduled to run at 2:30 A.M. daily, but you can edit the task to change the schedule.

To access the task, on the Windows Control Panel, click Scheduled Tasks > NS.HP Tools Update.

Performing the update daily helps keep the tools current without the need to run the Update HP Tools wizard manually. You can still run the wizard manually when it is necessary.

The HPTools.xml file has been updated.

After you install or upgrade to HP Client Manager 7.0 SP2, update the HP Tools manually by running the Update HP Tools wizard. This action ensures that you have the most current versions of the tools (SSM and Instant Support).

HP Client Manager can track two monitors that are attached to a video card.

When two monitors are attached to a video card, HP Client Manager can identify and track both monitors so that they can appear on the appropriate HP inventory reports.

A new data class named HPCMS HP Monitors has been added to provide this support. This data class is listed in the Resource Manager under Data Classes > HP Client Manager Inventory.

The option for enabling local alerts has been clarified.

On the HP Local Alerts Configuration Task page, under Local Alert Settings, the first option has been renamed as follows: Enable Local Alerts on clients (Display an alert icon in the user's system tray).

This option lets you determine whether users can enable or disable alerts on the client computers. If you enable alerts, then an Alert icon appears in the client computer's system tray. The user can use this icon to disable or enable their alerts.

A Help icon appears on pages where context-sensitive Help is available.

Help icon (blue question mark) appears on certain pages in the HP Client Manager. Like the F1 key, the Help icon opens a topic that applies to the page on which the icon appears.

Specific targets have been predefined for the Embedded Security tasks.

In the HP Embedded Security Wizard, the following targets are assigned to the tasks by default:

    Task Default target filter
Initialize Embedded Security Computers without Embedded Security initialized
Modify security Owner password Computers with Embedded Security initialized
Manage security User passwords (Reset user passwords): Create password reset token file Computers without Embedded Security Reset Password token file created
Manage security User passwords (Reset user passwords): Reset security User password Computers with Embedded Security Reset Password token file created
Manage security credentials and settings: Archive Computers without Embedded Security archived
Manage security credentials and settings: Restore Computers with Embedded Security archived

Fixed duplicate data class names in the HP Client Manager Inventory.

In the collected inventory data for an HP computer, two data classes had the same name: HPCMS WMI HP BIOSSensor. This duplication was visible in the left pane of the HP Client Manager Inventory display.

The name of one of the duplicate entries has been changed, so that each of the two entries has a unique name as follows:

    • HPCMS WMI HP BIOSSensor
This data class represents the table named Evt_HPCMS_WMI_HP_BIOSSensor.
    • Inv_HPCMS_WMI_HP_BIOSSensorInv
This data class represents the table named Inv_HPCMS_WMI_HP_BIOSSensor.

Fixed missing icons in the HP Client Manager settings tree.

When you edited settings, the Settings tree structure that appears in the left pane was missing some icons in the HP Client Manager branch.

The local alert that results from rolling out the HP Client Manager Agent closes automatically.

When you rolled out the HP Client Manager Agent to client computers, the alert that appeared on the clients did not close automatically.

The HP Softpaq Import wizard imports SoftPaqs from the Filestore subdirectories.

HP SoftPaqs can be placed in any number of directories under the Filestore directory, but the SoftPaqs in those subdirectories were not imported. The HP Softpaq Importwizard has been updated to import all of the SoftPaqs from these subdirectories and display them on the Select a SoftPaq page of the wizard.
