We've switched from an HP5750b desktop to the HP5850b desktop. They are basically the same PC. The 5850 will not take an Altiris image. Not sure if it a missing driver issue or what, but when you try and deploy an image to it, it just goes into a constant reboot cycle (boots up, goes to Windows logo screen, then goes to the menu about Starting Windows Normally, etc.).

Anyone have experience putting an image on a 5850, and what did you do?

Did you build a new image for the new model or are you using a hardware independent image?

It's a hardware independent image. All the drivers for the 5850 are loaded and the PXE boot has been rebuilt. No go. We've had our tech on the phone with Altiris Engineer for a few days and they can't figure it out. I was hoping someone here used HP stuff and could help.

Are you able to boot the computer into safe mode after the image to make sure the correct drivers were installed?

I am also experiencing massive headaches trying to image a 5850. I cannot get a linux boot disc to recognize the hard drive with versions 6.8 or 6.9. I can't even send an image to the machine. I've messed with just about every bios setting relating to the hard drive. I have not tried a windows boot disc because I do not want to rewrite all my scripts. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I should also add that I've been able to image a 5750 flawlessly. Seems like there is an issue with the SATA controller...

I know that for some of the new Dell's we've gotten in recently I have had to add the SATA drivers to my boot disk.

I have added every driver from ftp://support.altiris.com/support/NIC_drivers/Linux with no success. I have a strong feeling that it is a driver issue but have no idea how to compile my own driver.

On a side note I found this thread and it seems that Novell users are having similar problems with the 5850s.

I can however get an ip address just fine...

No, when it boots, just give the standard Windows did not start properly, yada yada.... It just keeps looping like this. I checked out the Novell link below to see if that Intel Matrix driver would help.

Please see this article KB Article 44131. I was having the same problem and came up this solution. Altiris suggested I switch to using WinPE. I did and that also fixed the problem.
