Hyper-v backup

Created: 11 Jul 2013 | 8 comments

Hi,

We have BE 2010 R2 and we have an Hyper-v server on differnt server and we did install the hyper-v angent on this server, now we want to backup 6 virtual machiens on this hyper-v server, yesterday I did create a job to backup 6 server 2003 R2, In the morging I can see the job has been failed when try to restore the tape I can see that 4 of these machiens has been backed up but 2 server 2003 has failed. I can see that one serve 2003 that has 3 drives, from these 3 drive C, D get backedup but I can see that drive E got fully backedup  (I can see 80 gb and this the exact drive E space) but I see a read X on the drive E, and in the logs I cannot see why. why this drvie has this read X on it?

Thanks

Hi,

Is this some sort of "RDM" disk? Can you post a screenshot, as well as checking the Alerts tab for the error?

Might be worthwhile upgrading to BE 2010 R3 which is a free upgrade considering you use your current licenses. R3 fixed a number of issues over previous versions. You need to grab manual copies of the Data/Catalogs folders before doing the upgrade. Run LiveUpdate after upgrading to patch the media server, and then push-install these updates to your remote servers.

Once done, run a backup and check again...

Hi Craig,

Sorry what do you mean by RDM? I did check the alerts and see an alert for this job but has something to do with other server 2003 that it didn't get backup at al. I did create an screenshot of the server that the E drive has a read X on it.

The problematic server is nts17 and in de end of the lof you can see this:

WARNING: "VRTSRV::\\nts20.mydomain.nl\Hyper-V?Virtual?Machine\NTS17\F:\Virtualization\nts17\NTS17\E_2012-04-22T074051.vhd" is a corrupt file. This file cannot verify.

Do you want me to send the complet log?

Was this a GRT enabled backup ?
Was the server powered on while the backups were running ?
What is the contents of E drive ?
Did you ever had a successfull backup for this drive in the previous backups?

Please check the event logs on the host machine as well as in the guest machine. Check for any errors or warnings inside at the time of E drive backup.
