I am trying to use Ghost 3.0, and I am new to it. my few client runs windows 7 and others use server 2012. Below are the steps i followed: 1. custom installation of ghost 3.0 trialware 2. installed all the components on the same server 3. in pre-boot environment setup option i gave the path of adksetup.exe 4. installation is successfull 5. Dagent is also installed successfully on client machines Now when i tried to install pre-boot operating system from boot disk creator it doesnt take path of pre-installed ADK it gave me error " The specified location does not appear to contain the WinPE 5.x files or, contains a version that is not compatible with boot disk creator". I have also tried to create iso of windows PE from "Deployment and imaging tool" of ADK. How can i use this iso file?? How should i go ahead with installing pre-boot environment?

Are you sure you used the correct ADKsetup?

I have used this ADKSetup "http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=39982"

i tried to use it in two ways.

1st time i had skip the options for pre-boot environment setup and then installed this adksetup

2nd time i tried to while installing ghost solution when it asked to setuo pre-boot environment i selected the same adksetup.

    but none worked for me.

And when i tried to create new job of "create image" after right clicking on client and selecting new job wizard.

    Automation pre-boot environment(Windows PE\Linux) gives me only default option. i.e. "Default Automation(Auto-select)".

it doesnt give options of windows PE or linux.

Are you sure you used the correct ADKsetup? It looks like either you didn't use the correct ADKSetup or it failed during install and you need to add WinPE as a pre boot environment. Symantec can't provide Microsoft's WinPE environment, you need to download the correct version of WinPE, 5.1, which is included in the Windows Assessment and Deployment Kit (ADK) for Windows 8.1 directly from Microsoft: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn621908.aspx You also need to install .NET Framework 4.5.

    Hello andykn101,

I also get the same error message, "The specified location does not appear to contain the WinPE 5.x files..."

Precisely what files are being looked for?

I direct the Browse to the location

    F:\ADK\Assessment and Deployment Kit\Windows Preinstallation Environment\x86\WinPE_OCs.

    Is this correct?

I'm not sure exactly what files it looks for, but your path looks very different from mine for the Windows ADK kist install.

Have you actually installed the Windows ADK? Try installing it to :\Program Files (x86)\Windows Kits\...

And are you sure you have the correct Windows ADK?

I downloaded the adksetup.exe file from your link in an earlier post above.

Since then I have uninstalled the ADK and relocated the ADK files (Windows Kits) to the C: drive instead.

So the path I browse to is now

    C:\Program Files\Windows Kits\8.0\Assessment and Deployment Kit\Windows Preinstallation Environment\x86

Alas I still get the message "The specified location does not appear..."

Can you confirm for me the above path is correct? I ask this because I noticed the DISM and imagex tools are elsewhere.

Is there a file I can locate in the above path that would tell you I am using the correct ADK when identifying that file's propeties? i.e. the DISM file is at version 6.2.9200.16384

I followed your link to the adksetup.exe file in an earlier post above. I have since uninstalled it so I could re-install it to the C: drive.

So the path I know browse the Boot Disk Creator to is

    C:\Program Files\Windows Kits\8.0\Assessment and Deployment Kit\Windows Preinstallation Environment\x86

Alas, with the Windows Kits located on the C: drive I still get the error "The specified location does not appear to contain the WinPE 5.x files..."

Can you please confirm the above path is the correct path for Boot Disk Creator to be shown?

I don't think you've followed the correct link, you should have downloaded the 8.1 ADK from here I believe: https://www.microsoft.com/en-US/download/details.aspx?id=39982 And I think it should install by default to :\Program Files (86)\ not :\Program Files\ and should then be \8.1\ (WinPE5) not \8.0\ (WinPE4).

Thanks for pointing that out, Andy.

I downloaded another adksetup.exe which installed 8.1 Good job I kept the previous adksetup.exe to uninstall the 8.0.

    Thanks again.
