I can't Win even though a single Database backs up all at same time fail

Created: 25 Nov 2013 • Updated: 06 Jan 2014 | 21 comments
This issue has been solved. See solution.

This is what I'm getting now. The Saga continues.

Backup- \\MAIL-AHGSERVER\Microsoft Information Store\Third Storage Group Media mount failed.

User canceled a Physical Volume Library operation.

V-79-57344-33861 - The media operation was terminated by the user.

Writer Name: Microsoft Exchange Writer, Writer ID: {76FE1AC4-15F7-4BCD-987E-8E1ACB462FB7}, Last error: The VSS Writer failed, but the operation can be retried (0x800423f3), State: Failed during backup complete operation (12).

V-79-57344-34108 - An unexpected error occurred when cleaning up snapshot volumes. Confirm that all snapped volumes are correctly resynchronized with the original volumes.

I plan on doing a full backup on each individual db instead because I got one to pass when I ran it by itself.

Please I'm sick of fixing one problem and constantly getting another one.

Any suggestions are much appreciated.

...if you're using AOFO (Advanced Open File Option), turn it off:

http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH38338

If you need to use it, consider splitting your data backups from your Exchange backups. You can use AOFO with data, and don't need it with Exchange for instance.

Thanks!

I have my log files set to purge

Microsoft Exchange->Full Database & logs flush committed logs.

And it doesn't look like its purging the logs.

Someone please help

I got my public folder store to backup once.

Now when I try to backup the third storage group with the new account I created I get

Does anyone here think buying the latest backup exec will fix my issues?

I really need an honest answer. My company may not want to do it so I'm still struggling with 12.5

CraigV's picture

Not necessarily. Although moving to BE 2012 is a serious change both to the way that jobs are performed, to the GUI, to a move from a resource-centric to a server-centric backup approach.

So...upgrading may not fix your issue at all. You'd need to check the release notes for BE 2010 R1 which replaced BE 12.5 first-off to see if this issue was addressed there.

If it was, then there is every chance that the issue might be resolved, but there have been times where issues that were thought to be resolved came up again in newer versions.

Thanks!

I am trying to do separate backups of all 4 of my databases to see which ones are an issue that cause the backup to fail. the fourth storage group fails with.

Job ended: Monday, December 02, 2013 at 12:41:16 PM
Completed status: Failed
Final error: 0xe000032d - The consistency check of the snapshot for the Microsoft Exchange transaction log has failed. You should check for possible data corruption in the transaction log that is online.
Final error category: Resource Errors

For additional information regarding this error refer to link V-79-57344-813

How do I check it for data corruption and how do I fix it?

SOLUTION
Ouyamaster's picture

So far the second and third storage groups succeed backing up without issue.

the Fourth group fails.

Will post back on status of first storage group because the backup is running currently.

Ouyamaster's picture

Ok anyone know how to

Run a non-GRT backup, without consistency check enabled to flush the logs. After a successful backup, enable the GRT feature and run the backup job as usual.

And has anyone tried this? does it work?

CraigV's picture

...if this is even possible, and doesn't make a mess of your backups and Exchange, then you'd probably need 2 backup jobs.

The simplest way around this is to log a call with Symantec and get them to assist.

Thanks!

Ouyamaster's picture

Thanks but Symantec will not help me because we are no longer under contract.
Its already a mess and I have been tasked to clean it up.
I have already begun a newly created backup with grt verify and consistency check disabled.
I am aware that I will have to rerun the same job over afterwards the normal way.

Ouyamaster's picture

All my databases Backup separately now after the recommended fix I mentioned above.

Gonna do a Full Information Store Backup Tomorrow night. here goes nothing.

CraigV's picture

...in what way? Can you please post the details or mark the relevant post?

THanks!

Ouyamaster's picture

it was solved by chasing every error after backing up each individual database individually.

And resolving each error message individually

I don't remember every detail anymore sorry.
