i use ghost suite 2.51 on a server in the building. i sometimes have to image up to 50 laptops a day from that 1 server. i currently use cds to get them to boot to ghost over the network and then the ghost program on the server multicasts 1 image to every laptop. my problem is that im trying to do the same process but with a usb instead of a cd. can anyone help me with this? the ghost boot wizard is confusing to me, not to mention the busy season is coming up in a month or two. so perfecting this now would be extremely helpful

USB instructions, plus PXE recommendation

Hi there!

If you are creating boot CDs, then creating a boot USB drive is simple. Here is how it differs:

1. Plug in the USB drive to the server; note that it will be formatted.
2. On the page where you are specifying the target for the boot package, choose USB disk; then select the USB drive from the dropdown menu.

That's it. What might be a better match, though, is a PXE boot environment. This would be a way to boot the machines witchout using a physical piece of boot media. The Ghost server would run services that would listen for PXE requests on the network, and deliver a boot package when a machine network booted. This works with any machine, even one without an operating system. Here are instructions:

How to use the 3Com Boot Services (and SolarWinds TFTP) with Symantec Ghost Solution Suite 2.5 using WinPE
http://service1.symantec.com/support/on-technology.nsf/docid/2009060307534660?Open&seg=ent

This method should save a lot of time, since you do not need to carry the media and can boot multiple machines at once.

Thank you,

Randy

I dont think PXE is an option

I dont think PXE is an option because i do not have 3com boot services and having to carry usb's around isnt a huge problem because i have tons of room in my workstation. i still cant figure out how to get the usb to work. i can get all the way to the ghost screen, the bottom says searching for ghostcast session and it ends up timing out. so it must be a network problem right? i can get a spare desktop nearby to image off of a usb and a cd but the laptops i cant.

im using Windows PE /deploy anywhere driver database /standard ghost boot disk / parameters: -clone,mode=restore,src=@mcghost,dst=2.

the ghostcast sesion is: ghost and the parameters: -ntic -ntil -fx -quiet -sure

the only difference is the network drivers i add at the end of the ghost boot wizard but ive tried multiple drivers and i can only get the desktop to work.
