I made a boot cd using ghost boot disk creator. I choose use linux rather than winpe or pc dos. The disk boots and is fine until it gets to Loading Thin Linux 2.2.1.... and it just hangs forever. It never gets to load up the gui and then ghost.

The machine that is causing all the grief is a HP campaq Model dc5000 small form factor.

I have tried this boot cd on other pcs  other than the hp campaqs and it works fine loads the gui and ghost in the busy box

Any help troubleshooting this issue would be greatly appreciated.

I would guess that it is the NIC or mass storage drivers. Honestly I have very little experence with Linux and wish I had even less.

Am I correct in assuming the other PC's you tried this in are older models? If so it is likely the driver issue.

Actually it worked fine on the brand new dells we have, but it doesn't work on the older hp compaqs model dc 6000's. Help is still required if possible.

Hi RobJCW, Most probably the

Hi RobJCW,

Most probably the problem is with ThinStation 2.2.1's fairly old X11 display drivers.  You could try logging in to a console to check.  Push Alt-F2 | Enter | Log in with username "root", and password "password" (or maybe no password is required.... I can't remember).

From the console you can use the commands "ping" and "fdisk -l" to check the network and storage drivers are ok.   BUT, you still won't be able to run Ghost as in GSS2.5 it was an X11 only program.  You could try asking Symantec if there is a version which they can share with you which will run without X11.  If you can't get that, then maybe you could try using a different Linux boot disk, e.g. a Ubuntu Live CD, the SystemRescueCD, or a newer version of Thinstation.  Ghost should be able to run in any of those environments.

Good luck!
David.
