IDR SETUP "Invalid Key"

Created: 26 Jan 2005 • Updated: 23 May 2010 | 6 comments

I have an issue when running the IDR wizard. When it comes to the point to enter the CD Key for the WINSRV2003 install I always get the error "Blank or Invalid key, would you like to contiue without it?"
I know the key is valid, there is no question. Anyone else have this issue or know of a bug which causes this?

This is not a question of the BE key but one of the Windows 2003 Standard Edition CD Key. When using the IDR wizard there is a point when it asks you to enter the CD Key for your windows media. I assume this is to promote automation during recovery. when I input the key into the fields provided I get the error "Invalid or Blank Key would you like to continue anyway?" I have even used a key retrieval utility to verify the cd key I am using is correct, it is. The media is also the same as when I did the original install.
Anyone else have this issue you know of?

TIA for any help!

Please make sure that you are not using a MSDN Windows 2003 CD during IDR wizard. The error that you have mentioned may occur if the non-standard format of operating system is used.

Could you please try the process using a standard Windows 2003 CD and check the results.

We would also like to point out that diskettes based IDR for Windows 2003 is not supported. IDR on Windows 2003 is either CD based or Tape based IDR.

This is not an MSDN version of the software. It is an OEM distribution by Dell computers, is this not supported?
I am not using diskettes for IDR but a bootable CD-RW.

We suggest you to use a different key for the IDR setup. You can also try using a different CD for the same.
