IE9 Layer issues

Created: 26 Oct 2012 | 9 comments

Has anyone succesfully created a working IE9 layer with the latest LDF file?  Whilst I can create the layer succesfully it will always error when launched. 'Internet Explorer has stopped working".

Any advice would be appreciated.

Isn't the message "Internet Explorer has stopped working" a standard feature of IE8 and IE9 ??

I've seen this happen so often on base layer installs of IE8 and IE9 that I stopped using it and switched to Chrome instead. IE9 is also soooo sloooowwwww.

Advice - dump IE and use Chrome.

Hi EdT,

I understand your sentement on IE9 as a whole, but unfortunately your advice is not an option for us.

Thanks for your thoughts though :-)

Would be great if Symantec could come back with some benefical advice on the subject!

Hi,

Can you share the LDF version, the steps that you've followed and system details?

Best Regards,

Pablo

Hi Pablo,

We are using Version 1.1.18.0 of the LDF Tool and the base machine has IE9 installed

We have downloaded the latest IE9 LDF File (ie9-win7-1.0.56.0).  Due to the tool failing to Download from MS, we need to download the required .msu's and save them into the downloads folder.

The LDF runs through and creates the layer succesful.  We are currently not making any changes to the created layer, its composed and exported.  When loaded on to a Windows 7 machine with ie8 installed to the base we get the above errors as already mentioned.

Thanks

Hi Wadders,

Did you run the layer in a different computer or where you've created the layer? Can you provide a link to get the created XPF?

Best Regards,

Pablo

Hi Pablo,

I ran the layer on the machine I created it on, then imported it to another Win7 machine with IE8 as the base.  The layer works ok on the machine it was created on, I guess because it has IE9 installed as the base also, but it fails on another machine with IE8 as the base.  Do you have a location I can copy the xpf to?

Thanks

You can attach files to your posting. Recommend you ZIP the file first, as only a limited number of formats are allowed. Just scroll down to the File attachments option below the message window.

I would suggest use 7-zip to archive and upload

Pablo,

apologies, I've been away for a while and so haven't been able to do anything with this.  I see there is a new IE9 LDF files released, so I'll create a layer from that and see how it goes.

Thanks
