1: Check /var/adm/messages file first.

2: There no point in restoring /dev, that directory contain device drivers that are re-created during boot.

Assumption is the mother of all mess ups.

You do not give enough details. Is the server itself down or the NetBackup daemons down? Which is it? This will allow us to give you a more focused answer.

I agree with Nicolai's comments 100%.

Your biggest problem with master server 'abruptly' taken down, is filesystem state and possible corruption of NBU catalogs. /var/adm/messages is your starting point as well as Solaris crashdump (/var/crash).

kindly tell us the solution in both the cases.

1) if netbackup services recycled

2) if master server is shut down.

1)

If NetBackup services are recycle, in a clustered environment check:

/var/VRTSvcs/log/engine_A.log

/var/VRTSvcs/log/NetBackup_A.log

Also check /var/adm/messages (or /var/log/messages / syslog)  if clustered or not.

Check logs such as netbackup/logs/admin, netbackup/logs/bprd.
Check if any NBU processes are running. Are any processess missing? If so, check that processes log.

2)
If Master server goes down, check /var/adm/messages / syslog and check for crash dumps in /var/crash as already mentioned by Marianne.
If clustered
/var/VRTSvcs/log/engine_A.log
/var/VRTSvcs/log/NetBackup_A.log

I believe your original questions in your opening post have been answered.

Please explain what you mean by your latest comment.

Solution to what?

Solution implies that there is a problem. Please explain what the problem is...

If you need to know when it was done, just look at /var/adm/messages to see system shutdown.

For netbackup - you will need logs. bprd for example.
