If VVR could be configured inside one cluster (SFWHA)?

This issue has been solved. See solution.

I have a 2-node cluster on Windows platform, can I setup VVR data replication betwen these 2 nodes in one cluster (not 2-site cluster)? I can do it on UNIX platform, how about Windows?

VVR Options

VVR can be configured independently of VCS within a cluster.  Therefore you can use VVR between 2 local cluster nodes.  However, to manage the primary/secondary relationships , you will have to either use the VEA console exclusively or configure what is referred to as a Replicated Data Cluster (or RDC).  RDC's are typically implemented when cluster nodes are is disparate locations but share a common subnet without extended SAN connectivity.

I am however curious why you are choosing to use VVR for replicating to a local node within the cluster?  You may be better severed by simply creating a volume mirror and subsequently breaking it and importing the data on the second node -using the Disk Group Split and Join feature- when you want to access the data on the alternate host.  You can then reattach the mirror later and perform a Fast Mirror Resync to update/refresh the volumes.

Can you elaborate on your use case.

Thanks,

Joe D

Hi Imiao, This can absolutely

Hi Imiao,

This can absolutely be setup with SFW-HA and VVR.  You need to check the guides for Replicated Data Cluster (RDC) and how to set it up.

You will basically be setting up two service groups similar to what you would do for GCO in that you have an Application service group and a Replication service group for VVR.

The Replciation service group will need to setup as a hybird group (Paralle = 2.) and the VVR IP resource will need to have local values so that it can be online on the two servers at the same time.

The Application Group will have an RVGPrimary resource in it to handle the VVR replication.  This resource will do a VVR migration or takeover as needed when the group fails between the two nodes.

This is a completely supported configuration.  If you have any problems setting it up, please open a case with Symantec Techncial Support for assistance.

Thanks,

Wally
