  • 1.  If you have upgraded to 12.1.5, would you do it again or wait?

    Posted Dec 03, 2014 02:13 PM

    Hello all,

Currently running 12.1.4100.4126 on 1600 machines, ranging from XP to Server 2008R2.  Systems are stable, with no significant operational issues being observed.

I am interested in upgrading to 12.1.5, but not at the expense of creating new problems or issues since I have no real issues currently and enjoy being employed.  :-)

So my question is for those of you that have upgraded from 12.1.4x to 12.1.5.  Have you experienced any new issues or problems? If you could do it all over, would you wait for at least one 12.1.5 maintenance patch to be released?  Have any of you actually had to downgrade back to 12.1.4 because of serious issues?

I realize there are some security issues addressed by newer builds, but operational stablility and performance take precedance.

I am looking for some honest feedback.

    Thanks,

    Robert

To be honest, haven't had or experienced a single issue yet with clients or SEPM. We ugraded to address vulnerabilities and utilize bandwidth control features and so far has been all good.

Sorry, I wasn't able to break anything :)

    Hi,

Thank you for posting in Symantec community.

I would be glad to answer your query.

Though we recommend to upgrade SEPM and SEP clients to the latest verion you can think on following points.

    1) The features introduced in SEP 12.1 RU5 are they required for you?

    2) Are there any known issue in your environment and has fixed in SEP 12.1 RU5?

If answer is no then you can stay with the current version also though we recommend to upgrade to the latest version of SEP.

Few issues have been reported after an upgrade to 12.1 RU5 but not necessary those will occur in your environment also. However, test few clients prior to roll out an upgrade throughout the network.

Known issues with SEP 12.1 RU5:

When Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1 RU5 is installed on an operating system running within a VMware Virtual environment, several problems are encountered

Thanks for the feedback.  I was hoping for more input, hard to make a judgment call from two upgrade responses.

The links to known problems is very helpful.  Is there a document that lists the known issues with 12.1.5 that can be monitored?

I am surprised by the number of problems people seem to be having with 12.1.5 after an upgrade in the forum, but no one responded to my query that they are having issues.

Still don’t know if problems after an upgrade are common or isolated to very specific installations and configurations.

    Hi,

I haven't seen any document that lists all known issues about 12.1.5. Most of the reported issues have been provided with the workarounds.

As I said earlier not necessary those reported issues will occur in your environment also. However, test few clients prior to roll out an upgrade & If any major issue occurred you can roll back to the previous version by following disaster recovery procedure.

However if everything is working fine and new features introduced in SEPM 12.1 RU5 are not required then you can stay with the existing version.

    I hope it helps.
