IM Manager - cannot connect using Yahoo Messenger v9 and v10
Hi all,
I have a single server IM Manager setup. Version 8.4.1328. It's working fine and is logging IM conversations correctly.
However some of our users want to upgrade their Yahoo Messenger clients to the latest version. I have tested this and the client wants to connect to a server which is outside the list of supplied servers on the IM Manager site (even though it says v9 and v10 is supported).
This is the list of servers i'm working with and have been configured in my hosts file:
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/ent-gate.nsf/docid/2007645475208898
This is the list of supported client versions:
http://service1.symantec.com/support/ent-gate.nsf/docid/2007082917260454
The new version has tried to connect to cs111.msg.ac4.yahoo.com amongst others which is not in the list in the website above. Is there a definitive and up to date list of servers? I don't want to have to add a new server to a users hosts file whenever someones client wants to connect to yahoo.
I also can't configure DNS centrally because I don't want all yahoo users going through the IM Manager server and using up licences.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Andoni

Cannot connect using yahoo messenger V9 and V10
Andoni,
9.0 (As of IM Manager 8.4.5)
10.0 (As of IM Manager 8.4.11)
Yahoo messenger client 9.x and 10.0 are supported on the version of IM Manger 8.4.1328 you are running.
Issue with connecting please follow the implementation guide for IM Manger (Configuring symantec IM Manger for yahoo 9.x and higher), this will require second IP bind to IM Manger. As long as you have all these servers listed in your host file from the KB above, you should not need to add any additional servers. I hope this will help you but if you have any question please post them here.
Thanks

hi jitendra, thanks for your
hi jitendra,
thanks for your advice.
i have performed the following steps:
1. added a secondary ip address to the server.
2. inserted this ip address into the im manager mmc console yahoo 9 setting
3. restarted the server to make sure.
4. on my pc, added the relevant primary and secondary entries into the hosts file for yahoo messenger
5. done an ipconfig /flushdns
6. run yahoo messenger 10
but still no luck. running tcpview shows that yahoo messenger is directly connected to cs128.msg.ac4.yahoo.com (a server not in the list in the hosts file). will i have to add more entries? it doesn't seem as if it tries to connect at all to one of the secondary servers in the hosts file.
any other help you could provide would be great. there must be something small i've done wrong.
thanks
andoni

ok i managed to fix this.
ok i managed to fix this. this is the procedure that i went through:
1. set up the second IP on the IM Manager server and configured IP in IM Manager admin snap-in, under yahoo v9 section
2. set up the new hosts file on the client
3. set up an exclusion in IE for *.msg.yahoo.com (this was what made it work)
4. installed yahoo v10 client
5. made sure the yahoo user was configured against an AD user in IM manager
and it logs on and works now!
