Is there a Bart PE or boot disk version for imaging? If so, how do I got about creating it, or can you refer me to a how to.

Cause I don't always need to save the image (for example when the image is temporary one) over the network to a server location, especially when that location runs out of space occasionally, or when the network is slow.

I can capture a computer and save the image to a spare partition on the drive or to an external usb hard drive, and redeploy; and be done with it.

What about installing a BootWorks partition, assuming the image is less than 2GB.
With an embedded BootWorks partition, you can do everything locally by booting from the embedded BootWorks partition and then imaging the machine from the local image store.

You could make a "network boot disk" vice the pxe or bootworks disk. This does the network thing and connects to the server. From there you can manually upload or download images from any directory in your "DS share" volume.
