  • 1.  Image new machines without windows with GSS

We’re using GSS 1.1 to image our machines when they need a new Windows installation. It works fine, but we still have a “problem”: We wan’t to know, how to image machines without a windows installation. (machines with an empty harddisk). The way we use GSS now is a image with Ghostwalker to generate a new SID and to connect the machine in our domain. But new machines can’t read configuration files, because there isn’t a configuration file. So a new machine doesn’t know how to log in onto our domain. There is one way, I guess: To make a copy of our image and than use sysprep to image our new machines. Is there another solution?

You can use PXE booting to start up a process that includes using ghconfig.exe and a premade ghregupd.reg file to configure it to join domains etc...  Or you can make a ghostboot partition image with the boot wizard and image your machines with that image.  They will communicate with your console, you will have to set their configuration up manually to contain the correct name as they will only show up by mac address, then push the image you want to them with the template you want.   Putting that ghostboot partition would take about 1 minute with a CD/USB Key.
