I am having a problem with the making of a image of the T5730 client. I am using a windows 2003 standaard server. Installed Altiris 6.9 build 355 SP1 on to this. Then connect the T5730 with the latest BIOS and Windows XPE. Altiris client version 6.9.355.

When I start the Job "create disk image" then the T5730 reboot. When started up it asked for a user name and password. It also has no visible Ip address anymore.

Altiris on the server is waiting with the message: Booting to automation. I cannot ping to the client.

After a while the client start reconfiguring and reboots again. Then the normal display appears and I can ping the T5730 again.

I am new to Altiris and I cannot find a solution for this problem.

So help is asked and very welcome because I struggle with this problem now for a week.

What kind of automation do you use?

PXE, an automation partition on the client or do you boot from a USB drive?

Hi Jahmar, what do you mean bij What kind of automation? At this stage I just want to make a image of the T5730 client. Where must I make the choice between PXE, an automation partion or USB drive?

Hi.

I don’t think you can create an image of the disk you are booting from. You need to boot from a USB drive or from PXE and then create the image.

Hi Jahmar, you are very fast! I understand. I thought that is the reason why Altiris started to reboot the client. Is this the moment for the Altiris Bootdisk creator? I run this and Altiris said: Freedos 2004-12-01 b9sr1 is now available to use bootdisk creator. So the wizzard has finished and copied all the files to USB. Now I am starting the client T5730. Is thsi correct?

Hi. That seems to be right. You might have to change the boot order in the bios so the client boot from the USB drive.

Hi Jahmar, the T5730 won't start. Ik checked the Bios for the boot order; this is ok. I got the message: Remove disk or media; press any key to restart. Is there something wrong with the files on the USB stick. I formatted this with FAT. Do you have any idea?

I have not used FreeDos before so I can’t help you with that.

Not all USB drives can be made bootable. Have you been able to boot from that drive before?

Hi Jahmar, what method do you recommend? I have never used freedos before. Google arround learned me that I first have to setup a Linux system for using the tool makebootfat. I can't find the syntax for using this tool with windows.

Is it better to use an automation partition?

Hi Jahmar, I managed to create a startup usb drive with Freedos. The T5730 can now boot from it. What is the next step to do? create a disk image from the T5730?

Now I have anther problem: I cannot connect to the server with the T5730 and FreeDOS. When I use the "net use" syntax I can not make any contact. From another workstation it is no problem to make contact to the server using the "net use" syntax. So this means that the server is running fine but there is a problem with Freedos T5730 combination. I made the Ip address fixed, so now I can ping to this address. This is working fine. The freedos config is just complaining about the used password. Also this must be correct because I can use the password from another windows workstation.

I am wondering if the combination Altiris/HP T5730 give so much trouble in starting up. Is this normal? Is there anybody who is having the same experience?
