  • 1.  Imaging Job runs all tasks, except Package Delivery tasks which say waiting for agent to get task.

    Hi all

We have a job in Deployment Solution 7.1 that deploys our gold build image, edits our xml file, injects drivers, reboots and then runs some scripts. It ends by running a couple of package delivery tasks.

Everything works fine until the package delivery tasks, after which it seems to just stall on the first of those with "Waiting for the agent to get the task".

Strangely though the agent DOES seem to get the task, as I see the agent pick up the task and say running, but it doesn't seem to actually do anything.

If I manually run the command lines these packages are set to run, they work find so I know the msi's are fine. However these packages don't seem to run when run separately to the job either. So I'm stuck trying to figure out why.

Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

We've tried setting the task to display a window rather than running in hidden mode, but nothing ever appears on the client. It seems that the task itself isn't actually being invoked, despite saying "Running".

    Thanks.

    Hi,

please attach here the client log when he tries to install the software. %ProgramData%\Symantec\Symantec Agent\Logs

I don't think this is an option on Package Delivery Tasks but I've seen this behaviour when Policies are running while a user is logged on that are set to only run with no user logged on.

Have you tried "Quick Delivery" tasks? I think Package Delivery tasks are really just for backwards compatibility for migrated v6 Tasks.

    Hi there

I just tried recreating these tasks using "Quick Deliver" and unfortunately the same occurs. They just sit there saying "Waiting for the agent to get the task".

I'll grab the log file from the client in a moment and then upload it here.

    Thanks.

Is the Software Management plug-in installed at this point?

Andy asked a fair question.  There are a number of things that could make this wait.  Based on what I'm seeing here though, I suspect the agent is installed, or at least the SMP thinks it is.

However, the package could NOT be downloaded, and therefore NOT run.  I couldn't tell what the package status was from the screen shots.  Packages and their associated tasks have to first download before they can run.  If there is any challenge getting the package (e.g. the site server doesn't have it or blocking bandwidth or... whatever), then there will be a delay as the client tries to download it.

The logs might show this, but I've never looked for it this way.  sorry.

Ah, that's useful. To troubleshoot package download problems I'd start with the Remote Altiris Agent Diagnostics (RAAD) tool:

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO21449

And check on the "Package Server" tab of the Package itself in the console that the pacakge is assigned to Package Servers.
