Impact of renaming a computer with the agents already installed

Sometimes computers are repurposed or moved to a different office and assigned to someone else and not reimaged.

In these cases the computer may simply be renamed and sent out, especialy if it's not been used much at all and the software is current and correct for someone else.

What is the impact on the agents and for that matter the whole setup if a computer is renamed with the agents like the patch management, inventory and other agents already in place and operational?

    Thanks

    Hi ShadowsPapa,

In case of already managed client PC hostname changes:

    • New hostname will be sent via basic inventory from this client PC and updated in "Symantec_CMDB" database.
    • All client PC data, such as: Events, Inventory and previously installed Patches and software will be preserved in "Symantec_CMDB" database.
    • ResourceGuid of this client PC will not be changed and will be preserved.

Otherwise, you can change client PC hostname and continue to serve it from CMS.

    • Reminder about clients PC merge, in case of Mac address changes, etc:

    Thanks,
