Import and search vault stores from different forest

This issue has been solved. See solution.

HI!

Is it possible to 'import' a sql database from a completely different forest (which holds all of the pointers for the non-production vaults) and then also move the VTL (which holds the actual vault store partition data) from a completely different forest and attach it to an existing EV environment and be able to search the data that is held with in the vault stores?

What we are trying to accomplish is to add historical data (and make it searchable) that was in an old Enterprise Vault implementation into a completely seprate and new production Enetrpise Vault implemenation.  Does anyone know if this can be done or has been done before?

Why whould the answer be no?

Why whould the answer be no?  If there is a product out there that can do exactly that, then you would assume it can be done manually as well?

Wow, this looks like a great

Wow, this looks like a great product!

The data that we are trying to "shuttle" however is only files and mail items from users that are no longer with the company.  The goal is to still be able to search these partitions.  IT seemed as though your product focused mostly on moving mail for active mailboxes and PSTs.  Is that correct?

Thanks!

Jane Yes, we are focusing on

Jane

Yes, we are focusing on active mailboxes, but I think inactive one's should be OK, too.
You could contact us via the website and inquire about this functionality, if you are interested.

Jane, are you using DA?  DA

Jane,
are you using DA?  DA can search mulitple sites so you might be able to do it that way.  Both sites would need to be the same version.

You can manually export the data to pst and then import them into your current environment but you question was about moving the sql databases and vault store partitions which prompted the no respones.

It might be worth engaging symc or a partner to design a solution for you.

Regards,
Tony

Yes, we are using DA.

Yes, we are using DA.  However, they are to completely separate Forests altogether.

We have far too much to export to pst, in the TB's.    I think that was the reason I was going the route of moving the sql databases and the VTL (which holds the vault store partitions) to the new forest with the new EV environment.

Yeah, you are right, it is a bit complex and prob best to contact symantec.  Thanks!
