  • 1.  Import/export custom data classes between several SMP

    Hi all:

I'm working in Altiris 7.1 (no SP1), and I'm developing some scripts for custom inventory (along with the data classes needed) in a test server. At some point in time, I'll need to "move" the new data classes and the inventory tasks to the production server.

Exporting the scripts is easy, but I can't find a way of copying/exporting the created custom data classes from a server to another.

Is there any way of copying the data classes definition (name and fields) from a NS to another? Or should I recreate manually each data class in every single NS?

By the way, I'm talking of more than 50 data classes...finding a way of exporting all of them, instead of manually creating them again, will save me a lot of time, as you can imagine.

    Thanks:

You can export these as .XML and then import them from the very same .XML file.  The option to export shows up when you right-click a Data Class, and the option to import shows up when you right-click a folder item within Settings > Notification Server > Resource and Data Class Settings.

    Will this work for you?

This was the step I was missing.

For creating the data classes, I was working from Settings > Discovery and Inventory > Inventory Solution > Manage Custom Data Classes, and I was trying to export the data classes from there.

This same morning I discovered the path you sugest: Settings > Notification Server > Resource and Data Class Settings . There, I can right-click and export data classes and even folders of data classes, which will be of great help when moving into production.

Again, thanks for providing the answer :)
