Importing from AD and connecting Clients.
Updated: 22 May 2010 | 6 comments
Hi.
We just reinstalled the SMEP server running windows 2003. And I have imported all the clients I want to manage from the AD in Protection Manager. Now I wonder what steps I must take to make the clients connect to the server. They already have a package installed on them, but I guess it is best to redeploy them? How can I deploy to the whole directory which I imported in to the manager?

Not Really, You don't need to redploy the clients.
Log a case with support and work with them, They 'll do it for you with SylinkReplacer.

The concept is that the sylink.xml file on the client's point's them to the manager, You have to replace this file with the new one from data\outbox\agent\alpha numeric folder for the group.
Any alpha numeric folder would do as you have integrated AD environment and the client will get to the right group.
De facto when AV does something, it starts jumping up and down, waving its arms, and shouting "Hey! I found a virus! Look at me! I'm soooo goooood!"
OK. But i think it would be easier to reinstall the clients, becouse i also want to stop using the Network Protection feature. Just tryed to redploy one of the clients with the right install package using Migration Deployment Wizard. The client installed just fine, and has the green dot. But it still not connected to the server. Does it not replace the .xml file when you reinstall? Or du i need to uninstall the old package from the client first. That is if Im not using the tool to replace sylink.xml.
you need to create a new Install Settings option.
Click Admin, Install Packages, Client Installation Settings
Click "Add Client Install Settings"
Select the option (at the bottom) "Remove all previous logs and policies and reset the client-server communications settings"
Other options can be set as desired, then use these settings for your rollout package

Ok. It worked on some computers, but on others the dot just stays yellow after deployment and they never seem to connect to the server. Can't figure out what the difference is between them. All computers are running on Vista, firewall is disabled and still nothing.
we dont have a yellow dot? its either green, or not there!

Sorry mistake, its a yellow shield with an explanation point (!) because the definition file is not up to date. And the client is not online with the server, and there for can't update.
