Importing Assets using Connector Solution
Updated: 21 May 2010 | 3 comments
Hello,
I have Helpdesk Solution installed and need to integrate it with a custom application which manages my assets. All I need to do is to import the asset data from my application into the Helpdesk database so that I can use it and assign it to contacts who are openning new tickets.
I have used the Connector Solution to import these assets, and could import it successfully.
The problem is that I cannot find these imported assets im my Helpdesk Solution. When I go to the Assets menue -> Find Assets, I cannot find any assets there. However, I can see my imported assts in the Notification System console under the Resources -> Assets.
Please, anyone can help me out in this issue.

Go to the Admin menu and
Go to the Admin menu and select "Resource Types".
This will give you a listing of the Resource types imported into Helpdesk. By clicking "Edit" at the bottom of that page you should see a listing of the available asset types on your NS.
check out the last section of this article I wrote awhile back for a little more information: https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/articles/creating-new-asset-type
And let me know if you have any other questions.

Hi Matt, Thank you for your
Hi Matt,
Thank you for your reply.
I have already tried that. I enabled all the resource types from the Helpdesk Admin menue. However I still cannot find me assets.
I found that my imported assts are stored in the NS under resource type (Asset) and I cannot find this type inside the Helpdesk Resources Types menue. That's why they do not appear their.
I also don't know how to change the resource type of my imported assts to view it in the Helpdesk solution.

Temporary Solution
Just to continue working with the assets in the Helpdesk Solution, I have gone for a temporary solution.
I have run a script on the SQL database to change these assets type from (Asset) to (Computer) type. That way, I can see these assets in the Helpdesk solution since it does not support the asset type (Asset).
However, this solution cannot be permenant since the import operation should be scheduled to run automatically. So, the imported assets will have the type (Asset) by default which will not allow it to show under the Helpdesk.
I was thinking that I can use a demo Asset Management Solution to create a new asset type and import these assets under this new type. But my questions are: will I be able to use this new asset type in the Helpdesk solution?
Another question is that, when the demo version of the Asset Management Solution expires, will I still be able to use the newly created asset type and import new assets under it?
Regards,
Mustafa
