This issue has been solved. See solution.

Have old media from BE2010 with exchange and sql data on it. Want to move to appliance completely. As per symantec BE import was supported to BE12.x only. Is thee any alternatives we can re-ingest data with extended retention on appliance.

for exchange if using old BE can we stage it without exchange being target as those data would be production data and same database cannot be made live due to gaps in time and are critical too due to historical data being in media.

pls share ur experience

As per documentation that you have found, BE2010 media cannot be imported.

You basically have 2 choices:

1. Keep BE server around for restores

2. Restore BE tapes to a temp location (new client machine with different hostname, preferably off production network), backup with NBU. Do cold backup - services stopped, MS-Windows policy.

Supporting Storage Foundation and VCS on Unix and Windows as well as NetBackup on Unix and Windows
