Importing Departments from AD and Hierarchy
During our import of users from AD we will have asset departments created with departments that are listed under a user account. For example if a User is in Department "Area 1", a department is created in Asset called Area 1. In Asset we have hierarchy where "Area 1" has multiple departments under it. Is there way to import from AD department field to go to the correct hieracrhical group? Is there a special character that can be used? I thought perhaps seperating it such as "Area 1\Bldg A" would work but it just created a new deparment called the same.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
I don't use AD
Hi,
I don't use AD, but I generate my departments from .xls file, there I've three principal columns calls "Resource Name" (Department Name), "System Number" (Department Number) and "Department Hierarchy" (this is the name from the department dependent other department), I create the data source and the rule import, when run the rule, this creates the hierarchy the departments.
I wait this help your problem.
Greetings!!
Depends..
Depends on how clean/lean your AD, and your connector solution setting. I did have to associate the hierarchy for different department manually.
Hello all. I know this is a
Hello all. I know this is a old posting but I wanted to come back and see if anyone found out a good way of doing this. Just to reiterate what the question was in better terms:
Currently we import users and computers via the Active Directory Sync setting. My question is how can you import a user directly into a department that has hierarchy? For example:
Area 1
Admin
Business Services
Area 2
Classified
Categorial
Area 3
Tempoary
etc
etc
Right now when we add a Department Name in the User field of AD it will either create the department if it doesnt exist or add them to a department that does. Problem is how can you get it to add to a department hierarch. Using the example above, how do you get the user to fall under Business Services.
Any help is always appreciated!!
Thanks
