In the organization in which I work, our images have grown to the size of 30 gigs and more, my supervisor has asked me to look into the possibility of using ghost 11.5 so we can do incremental backups. I have started researching the subject, does the incremental backup file show up as a *. gho file?. The last time I looked into the subject I noticed that the incremental backup file was an exe file which had to be deployed with console is this still the case?.

What are some of the applications that an incremental backup WILL NOT work on?

Incremental Backup

You can take the incremental backups using Ghost Solution Suite 2.5 which uses Ghost 11.5.
In the Ghost Console at the left side you will find a tab called "Backup Regimes" Where you can take the Base line backups [It is a full backup] and configure a scehdule to take the Incremental backup.
You can find the location for these backups at Tools->Options .
Whereas these backups are in the form of .gho files.

Cant create an incremental backup

I have an automatic backup regime setup using gss 2.5, but everytime it runs on certain computers I get a warning. It says that it failed to create an incremental backup, and will instead create a baseline backup. It runs every night, and every night fails to find a baseline backup to create an incremental backup with.
What can I do?

Credentials

Since this connect with the Windows Task Scheduler, make sure that the Backup Regime has appropriate credentials to run.

Incrementals

RobJCW,

The *.EXE files do not specifically need to be deployed from the console. After you deploy the baseline image, you can restore the incrememtals individually (so long as you do them in order). This allows you to stop at a point earlier than the last incremental, if necessary. Only the baseline shows up as a *.GHO, though. Incrementals may not work for OS patches, and some Microoft programs. If something like that is updated, it is best to force a new baseline image.

Thank you,

Randy

I have the backups set to run

I have the backups set to run nightly with a baseline image every two weeks. What can cause some of the computers to not backup incrementally. Why would the console create a baseline image on Monday, and then fail to create an incremental backup on tuesaday, sayin that it couldnt find a baseline image to start with?
