This issue has been solved. See solution.

Hi,

I found this doccument, http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/273141.htm, but it seems to sujjest you need to move everything.

As a temporary measure, I would like to move on of the 6 index folders to another volume so we don't lose Vault.

Is this possible and does anyone have any pointers for me please?

Many thanks

James

yes, there is a possibility.

yes, there is a possibility. in the vac, go to archives, you can move the index there on a per archive basis. (you have to copy the index folder yourself, but this will take care of changing the db) havent got technote handy

question

Found exactly what you are talking about, thanks.

It shows H:\Indexes\Location01 looking at one of the users... the option says "use this option to change the location where ALL the above listed volumes reside".

Could you clarify what gets moved? Just this users indexes within the Location01 folder or the whole Location01 and multipul users data?

Cheers

It will only move the index

It will only move the index volumes for that archive, not all the users.  Here are the steps from the Admin Guide.

To change the location of an archive's index volumes

Right-click the list of index volumes and, on the shortcut menu, click Select All. Alternatively, you can select multiple index volumes as follows:

To select single index volumes, hold down Ctrl and then click the index volumes.

To select a group of index volumes, click the first index volume you want to select. Then hold down Shift while you click the index volume in the group.

Right-click the selected index volumes and, on the shortcut menu, click Set Index Volume Offline. There is a warning that index volumes cannot be searched when they are offline. Click Yes. There is a confirmation that the operation has been queued. Click OK. The status of the index volume changes to Offline.

Click the Advanced tab of the archive's properties and make a note of the Archive ID. To copy the Archive ID to the Windows clipboard, double-click the ID to select it, then right-click it and, on the shortcut menu, click Copy.

Copy the existing index folder to the new location that you want to use. Copy the whole folder, without changing its name.

When the copy is complete, click Change Location.

On the Index Volume Location dialog, select the index server that manages the new location and then select the location to which you copied the index folder. Click OK.

The index location is changed and all the index volumes are automatically set online.

Delete the original index folder.

Damn,

So no way to move a whole chunk of this, like one of the 6 volumes.

Seeing as we are really badly out of space here I think I may have to move everything then, we have so many users I cant see moving them one at a time will work, the space will fill in the time it takes to move the next user.

Thanks for your help guys.

When you say Volume do you

When you say Volume do you mean Index location?

That was the link I posted in

That was the link I posted in my original post here, and it does not sound liek what I want to do, though I could be wrong...

I have an H:\ drive, this is for Indexes and Shopping, it is 204gb and has just hit 200gb.

In this drive there is a folder called Indexes, inder here there is Volume01 through Volume06 (6 foldres, with a whole heap of sub folders in each).

What I would ideally like to do, is move just one of these VOLUME0x folders, for instace move Volume01 and leave Volume02 through 06 where they are.

The way I am reading the document attached, it would mean moving all 6 Volume0x Indexes to another location.

Am I right or wrong here?

Many thanks for your help!

you are reading it

you are reading it incorrectly.

If you look in the IndexRootPathEntry table you will see the 6 locations listed.  You can move just one of those locations by following the steps in the technote.

So, for example H:\volume01 should be listed in the sql table.  Stop the services and copy it to x:\volume01 and then update the SQL table.  ( I would rename H:\volume01 to H:\xxVolume01 as a test to be sure the sql update took)  Restart that services and you should be all set and able to deleted the volume off of H:\

Yeah, as you were typing this

Yeah, as you were typing this I was playing about in SQL (something I don't like doing) and found the exact refernce with the 6 paths.

The reason I was thinking this wouldn't be right is the name of the entry - "index path root entry"... I figured that was where it told it to put these 6 volumes... not that there would be 6 entries, one for each index volume.

Confusion over, thanks for your help.

Now just waiting for the backup to finish and then we can have a go.
