This issue has been solved. See solution.

Hi all,

My backup media server running Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition SP2 32 bit, and my Exchange server running windows server 2008 SBS standard SP1 64 bit.

I have follow this article for backup and restore exchange requirement.

http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?pag...

  1. Version Exchange Management Tool on the Backup Media server is same with Exchange 2007 server:   08.01.0240.006
  2. The backup account has following rights: Administrators, Backup Operators, Domain Admins, Enterprise Admins, Exchange Organization Administrators, Exchange Public Folder Administrators, Exchange Servers.
  3. The Backup user account has send/receive email inside, is uniqued and not hidden from GAL

Then I follow this article to restore individual email

http://www.symantec.com/connect/articles/restoring...

It restore sucessful and has byte count size on the job monitor. When I check in the user mailbox, it only has symantec email notification with restore sucessful : Symantec Backup Exec for Windows Servers has restored one or more items to your mailbox.  After verifying that all requested items have been restored, you can delete this message. For more information, contact your system administrator and refer to the job history for job <GRMREstore>.

But no individual email that I want to restore exist.

So can anyone help me to troubleshoot this issue?

Thanks a lot.

Kevin

Hi, Were you using AOFO

Hi,

Were you using AOFO during your initial backup job?

After duplicating your Information Store to disk first, did you verify that you can see your individual items there before running the restore?

Thanks!

Are these restored emails

Are these restored emails visible from OWA ?

Also, have you ensured that there are no filters applied in the user's mailbox ?

Using AOFO when create backup job

To CraigV: Yes, i use AOFO when I perform backup job. I ensure I can see the individual mail after I duplicate my Information Store.

To VJware: the restored email not visible on OWA, only has symantec backup sucessful notification. There are no filters applied in the user's mailbox.

OK...so you need to do the

OK...so you need to do the following:

1. Turn off AOFO...it's not recommended to use this when backing up DBs. It has been known to cause issues with backups/restores.

2. If you need to use AOFO, separate data from DBs. Run the data backup with AOFO, and the DB backup without AOFO. Check my article below on how to do so...

Sorry about reply too late

Sorry about reply too late because I have many projects need to follow so forget to reply. As your advise, I create two Back-To-Disk folder, 1 for store B2D file and 1 for store IMG ( backup exchange). B2D backup I turn on AOFO feature, and IMG folder I turn off AOFO feature, then I do a full backup . But when I try to restore, the result is same, I only receive Symantec Backup Exec for Windows Servers initialization message for mailbox restore email notice, and user email which restore not exist on their mailbox.

So any suggestion?

Thanks and Regard,

Kevin

You mean the OS patch or

You mean the OS patch or symantec backup patch ?

If is OS patch, I only update to SP2 on windows 2003 media server.

If is Symantec software patch, I will update the lastest patch then tell you later .

On my situation, the media server 08.02.0176.002 and another three exchange server are:

              -  08.01.0240.006 Server01

              - 08.02.0301.000 Server02

              - 08.02.0176.002 Server03

So can I restore the individual email on server01 and server02 ?
