Hello,

First of all we use EV 9.3 for Exchange Archiving.

I'm a bit lost in all those places where you can define which vault store and Indexing services you can use.
I have it defined in the VAC

1. On Exchange server with the override checked in : Targets\Exchange\Exchange Server

2. nothing in the Provisioning Group : Target\Exchange\Provisioning Group

3. On the EV Server : Enterprise Vault Servers

I am right to thing that a mailbox from Exchange Server A gets the values from point 1

If yes what is the use of setting the values in point 3. ?

Thank you very much for any clarity.

You are correct in saying default vault store at 3 levels:

- Provisioning group : This is the setting used for the default vault store when it is defined.

- Exchange Server: This is used if the vault store is not defined at the PG level.

- EV Server: This is used if the default vault store is not defined at any of the above 2 levels.

I hope this helps..

Thank you for your answer .

So am I right to assume that  in my case the definition at the ev server level is useless ?

Thank you

When you are enabling mailbox for archiving you can select the vault store and the indexing server as well.

Not useless but less used :)

To be honest it should be the preferred method, that way archives are created on the same server where the task is held, which means less cross server traffic

Yeah it should be but not generally recognized. Most of the time, we just specify this at PG level only
