Is there a way to have the Initial Deployment job prompt for a computer name before running an imaging task?

Figured it out myself, sort of. It is possible to supply Bootworks with the -name parameter, which will prompt for a computer name, though this only works in DOS automation.

So my next question - is it possible to modify the menu presented by the -name parameter (it looks slightly like a 1337 warez .nfo-file..)?

any info on this

we have it set up so it take the serial number of the machine but want a prompt box to enter our own name during the setup process

Under modify configuration/microsoft networking you can set the token name with %name% or %serialnum%

can any of these be set for a prompt??

Thanks

Phil

For a really customizable build experience...

...take a look at BootConsole.  We use it here since we have dozens of people who build machines, and didn't want to try to support all them in the console (most with minimal DS experience).  BootConsole completely replaces the DS build process from the technician side.  It is very customizable.  There is an additional HTA-based function we have called BuildEssentials (I think it is part of BC, not sure) that allows you to enter the computer name, local admin groups, or anything else you can come up with via an HTA interface.  You may want to check with Altrinsic for more details if you're interested.  Oh, and tell them Kyle sent you :).

Thanks,
Kyle
