  • 1.  Initial deployment task failed with PECTAgent.exe Application error

    We are trying to deploy an image to unknown computers using intial deployment but after the task is selected we are getting the following error

    PECTAgent.exe ---- Application error.

              The Instruction at 0x76365dbe referenced memory at 0x01c36e8.The memory could not be read.
                Click ok to teminate the program....
     
    We are using a site server as a PXE server amd we have image available in the site server.Unable to figure out why this error is coming.Also in the PXE logs I could find the following error...
     
    get_MaintenanceWindows return error -2147467263
     
    When PXE server is installed in a site server, how does the task being picked by the clients...? I am able to create an image and deploy on clients with altiris agent but also in that the reboot to PXE/Production task is not automated, I need to select manually the tasks...
     
    Help is needed to resolve this issue....

    type taskmgr in the command prompt, under processes PECTAgent.exe should be running if not the u might have a DNS issue ping NS with fqdn and short name can u resolve?

    I could see the PECTAgent.exe in the taskmgr.I could resolve with hostname....

    If PectAgent is crashing, it generally exits.  That's what a crash is.

    Are you still seeing this?  It's been a few days.  If so, I have a few more questions.

    1) what is the first task in the job?  Is it imaging, or a script of some kind?

    2) what version of DS are you using?  7.1?  7.1 SP1?  7.0?  and at what MR release if applicable?

    3) what if you re-launch the PectAgent, at this point it's now in the console, and you run the same job/task against a now "known" computer - does that work?

     

    As for manually selecting the task to reboot to automation - that's by design - a design we hope to change, but no promises.  If you're comparing against 6.9 that did it for you, you're right, the "automatic" part of that is now missing, but it was missing on purpose.

    I getting this same error:

    PECTAgent.exe ---- Application error.

              The Instruction at (address) referenced memory at (address).The memory could not be read.
                Click ok to teminate the program....

     

    Then in pectagent log:
    get_MaintenanceWindows return error -2147467263
     
    The agent exe is running until you click ok on the application error window.
     
    Did anyone find a solution regarding this? 
     
     
    I have NS 7.0 MR4 and DS 7.1 MR4.  And this seems to happen if I run a Initial deployment or if I just boot into PXE as it was trying to kick off the task I selected in initial deployment which is a SOI task for Windows XP sp3.
