Initial upload very slow

Created: 29 Sep 2013 | 10 comments

I setup my first backupexec.cloud Friday morning and 48 hours later only 32% of 10gig are uploaded. Is the service always this slow? Speed test show available bandwidth of 20meg down and 5 meg up, Policy is setup to use all available bandwidth. Any suggestions?

Thank you

Hi,

Have you checked to make sure that no antivirus scans are taking place on that data at the same time it is trying to upload to the cloud?

Thanks!

Are you using schedule backup or is set as continuos ?

If it is setup as continuos please make sure the PC is online until we have compleated the initial backup.

Thre are no anti virus scans taking place and what difference does it make if im using a scheduled backup or continuos?

When you’re using a Scheduled backup if we are in the middle of a large file we would end the session as we would be working outside of the scheduled hours.

Then when it’s our time to run again we would start from the beginning of that large file.

What they won't or can't tell you here is that the service is basically not working too good right now.  Some of their servers are having issues and if you are connected to one of them then your backup will crawl.  I was told to reinstall the service and that would connect me to one of the servers that is working correctly.  I did this by "Remove Service" and then "Add Service."  I don't think this helped.

I am going to continue posting updates here in this thread.

Currently I'm backing up about 1GB a day so it should take about a month for my backup to complete.

OK, hopefully this is my next to final update.  I talked to Symantec again at 800-807-6047 and I think I have it fixed.  I was only running Symantec Endpoint Protection Small Business 2013 and Backup Exec.cloud.  They sent me an email with links to a couple removal tools to completely remove both services.  Just using "Remove Service" doesn't do it which makes sense.  Afterwards I added both services to my PC again and the backup seems to be cooking along.  I will follow up with one more post tomorrow to confirm.

So yeah, everything is great now.  My 25GB got backed up in less than 4 hours.
