Initialize Tape?
Updated: 21 May 2010 | 2 comments
I bought new tapes to use for my backups with Symantec Backup Exec 10d.
Do these tapes need to be initialized? If so, how do I do that.
Thanks.

RE: Initialize Tape?
Insert the tape
Inventory. BackupExec will label the tape with a default lable based on your Global options
if you want a specific label (ie: Weekly 2 or Monday Full) then in the Devices Tab, right click the drive and select "Label"
Leave the tapes in the Scratch media set and let Backup Exec move them to a production media set when it uses them.

Hi
HI
Initialize is just going to initialize the library for use, basically sends a startup command to the library.
Inventory will run through and read the headers of the tapes to tell you what is in each slot.
You will need to run an inventory after the new tapes have been loaded.
