Initializing TCP/IP
Updated: 22 May 2010 | 4 comments
Whne running initial deploy, my clienets seem to launch ok. They get to "Initializing TCP/IP via DHCP" then several of them hang up.
Has anyone run across this before?

Just started seeing this too. Worked fine last week. Please keep posted if you find anything and I'll do same.
Thanks
I've been running into this for the last couple of years. Sometimes it works for new computers, sometimes it doesn't. When it doesn't, I have to load an OS to the point where the NIC drivers are installed, then it works fine.
I would like to find a solution for this as well. It's kind of hard to image/re-image computers when you have to load an OS on it first.
We ran into this on imaging jobs beginning with ver. 6.8. It seems frequently out of a lab of 25 or so, there may be 4 that stop at that point. Sometimes rebooting will prompt it past that point. Sometimes a restart of power will do it. Other times it takes getting into the dhcp server and making that IP exempted from distribution to force the offending machine to get a different address. Didn't equate it to a DS issue, but have been "blaming" it on our dhcp server or the network in general as PXE is happy, the image is brought down and has started running from it.
We also have been experiencing this same issue as of about 2 weeks ago...
We can get it to work on that machine if we boot it into windows and let it obtain an IP from there first then reboot and PXE boot works from that point on. However it will reset and the issue will start all over if the computer is off and deleted out of the console for a couple days (i'm assuming the IP Lease time).
I have also noticed that in DHCP, it's pulling the IP, but not putting a name in there...
We put this same machine on a different VLAN and it works fine... So, we ended up finally switching VLANs for our setup and I have no problem now...
I have no clue what the cause of the issue was, but I am planning on upgrading to 6.9 SP1 this friday, and hope that will solve some of these issues...
