Hi i have got a problem which is driving me crazy and i have no idea what why its occuring.

situation. We have backup exec 9.1 and LTO drive so should be able to backup 400gb compressed (theory). Now when i am getting into work in the morning the tape is ejected and backup exec is asking to insert overwrittable media. now i know this normally means tape is full so need another tape but the random thing is that it works a lot of the time on a single tape and then recently we have been getttin a lot more occurances of the tape being ejected asking for overwriteable media.

E.g started a backup on wed night to backup whole system. ran perfectly  approx 340-350 GB
during thursday some data was deleted so therefore the backup size should be lower. So start the backup on thursday night come into work on friday and look at backup exec its got to about 270-280 GB asking for overwrittable media.

When this first occured i thought maybe the tapes were old so i started with a fresh set of tapes and it worked ok for a week or so but its just started to re occur again.

any help ideas or tips?

Thanks in advanced

I'm getting what appears to be the same problem. I've backup exec 9.1 with the latest SP installed and an lto drive with 200GB capacity compressed. Regular backup seems to run OK but i'm about to migrate the file parition to a larger disk set and need a complete verified backup of that partition before proceeding. I create a new job, set overwrite to allowed, compression to software if available, eject isn't selected, retension and verify is. The entire job is only about 93GB but every time i run it (at different times too and during inactive periods) the tape ejects at between 85 and 91GB with the insert overwriteable media alert. I've tried different media and have run the cleaning tape.

i'd very much apreciate some advice

We have started to expierence this same thing around the same time you did, September 12th.

We have updated to SP4 and pushed out the remote clients to the servers.   No Luck
We have recreated the job as overwrite only.  No Luck

Ran the test job and it says successful and it registers only 145 GB.

The job that last failed, failed at 176 GB, before kicking the tape out.

I dont know if this has anything to do with it or not.  As the others have said thanks for any help.  I am still trying a few things.

New tape
Change job to not eject tape when done
etc.

We are also having very similar problems with the backup.  However looking though the properties under the media set backup, I find that the disk compression ratio is only at a 0.5:1, which appears to be the cause.  This should be around 1.3:1 from previous records.  The backup ejects the disk everyday for about a week now, any thoughts about the compression ratio to this problem would be of great help.

Thanks
